1.4.1 Safe to install
GPS-Speedo is a digital speedometer that utilizes GPS sensor data to provide various information including speed, GPS time, coordinates, altitude, and a compass with bearing. Additionally, if a data connection is available, it can also display the current location or address.
The app offers the option to choose between analog or digital speedometer display and includes an optional auto range function. Users can select from different speed units such as miles per hour (mph), kilometers per hour (km/h), knots (kts), and meters per second (m/s). Distance units include statute miles (mi), kilometers (km), and nautical miles (Nm), while altitude can be displayed in feet (ft), meters (m), or yards.
Enabling GPS provides high position accuracy based on the quality of the device's GPS. Users can further enhance precision by using the averaging option. A notable feature for car drivers is the automatic change of background color based on common speed limits, which can be customized as needed. Unreliable speed values are indicated in gray.
The app allows for customization of speed output formats (mph, km/h, m/s, kt), distance and altitude formats (mi, km, Nm, m, ft, yd), and various degree formats. GPS-Speedo also offers trip statistics including maximal speed, duration, odometer reading, average total speed, moving time, average speed when moving, ascend and descend sums. It's essential to note that altitude values from GPS may have lower accuracy compared to horizontal coordinates.
Users have the option to obtain highly precise averaged GPS coordinates for activities like geocaching. Averaging and trip statistics now operate in a separate service to prevent interruption if the app runs in the background. Locations can be saved as GPX POI (waypoint) files on the device memory or SD card.
For raw positioning, network-based localization is supported with internet access required. However, coordinate averaging and trip statistics necessitate GPS functionality. Due to the high battery consumption of GPS sensors, users are advised to consider an external power supply for extended measurements.
To remove ads, users can explore the ad-free version of the app called GPS-Speedo Pro on the Google Play Store. In case of bugs or issues, users are encouraged to send error reports for swift resolution instead of providing negative ratings.
